Despite missing the first three weeks of training camp, Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe convinced his teammates that he’s in football shape. “He looks real good,†fellow receiver Dexter McCluster said of Bowe, who signed his $9.5 million franchise tender on Friday but did not accompany the Chiefs to St. Louis, where they lost 31-17 on Saturday to the Rams. “He came in showing off his abs, so he looks real good.†Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel will still need to be convinced whether Bowe will be fit enough and familiar enough with offensive coordinator Brian Daboll’s new playbook to play in Friday night’s preseason game against Seattle at Arrowhead Stadium. Crennel said Bowe will be allowed to practice in pads on Tuesday, which would give him two days of preparation for Friday, which would be the club’s third preseason game. Teams generally hold out their key players in the final preseason game. “We’ll give him his (conditioning) tests,†Crennel said. “We’ll see if we can pass them. He did pass his running test already. He needs to work on his conditioning, and when he’s ready to play, we’ll put him on the field. He’s a whole training camp behind. There’s a lot … new offense, new terminology, a lot of stuff he has to learn.â€
