Almost every NFL player faces a crossroads season at some point in his career, and for QB Matt Cassel, this is it. A disappointment in 2009 after he was signed to a lucrative contract extension, Cassel is entering a critical sixth season, and while PFW hears the Chiefs are "cautiously optimistic" about him heading into the year, PFW has also been told that this could be his last shot to prove he's a dependable starter. He's done all the right things this off season, putting in extra time on the practice field and staying late at the team facility to study game film, but it will take a marked improvement in game action for him to show he's not the same signal caller who faltered throughout last season. The presence of accomplished QB teacher Charlie Weis will help, but whether it's enough to put Cassel over the top remains to be seen. If not, the Chiefs could very well be looking at quarterbacks in the 2011 draft.
