Matt Cassel seems to already know his fate with the Kansas City Chiefs after being benched at halftime of Sunday's 28-6 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Brady Quinn replaced him and looks to be the 1-9 Chiefs' starter for the remainder of the season, according to the Kansas City Star. Of course, Quinn has been given the starting job before, but lost it back due to injury, causing the Chiefs to go back to Cassel.

“I’m not going to go into that right now,’’ Cassel said after the Chiefs lost their seventh straight game. “I don’t know what my future holds, but I’m going to continue to be the same guy. I’m going to continue to work hard and do whatever I can to help this team win. It’s a tough situation. Anytime you’re the quarterback. There is a lot of weight put on you whether it goes good or whether it goes bad.

“I wasn’t anticipating it. I came in at halftime and Coach Crennel said he wanted to create a spark so he was going to make a change at the quarterback position. I wasn’t anticipating that at halftime after we came down and put three points on the board (before) the half.’’

Took this long? I know of a back up job in Pittsburgh if you're interested Matt. Send an application...

cassell wouldn't be much better than leftwich and he'll turn the ball over WAY more so you would be pissed at him very quickly too ................. there's only about 10 really good QB's in this league and then another 10 so-so QB's and then the rest suck by comparison to the good ones. you can't expect to have a kick-ass back-up QB when many teams don't even have a kick-ass starting QB.

start watching the 10 or 15 worst teams in the league and really analyze their QB's. there is a HUGE dropoff between the 10 best and the 10 worst STARTING qb's in this league. no one has 'good' BACK-UP qb's. they're all bad.

He'd be better than Leftwich. Leftwich and Batch are horrible. There's a reason Byron hasn't won an NFL game since, I think, 2006?

I'm not looking for a premiere starter. I'm looking for a serviceable backup, which Leftwich or Batch are neither. Cassell could win a couple games with this team around him. He could manage a game. But he'd also lose a couple. If he could go .500 during Ben's absence, I'm happy. In my opinion a backup that can go .500 is good.

Did either Leftwich and Batch have a season like the Cinderella tale Cassel had with the Pats? Could he again have one with talent around him?
