With the 36th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Ole Miss RB Dexter McCluster. Undersized for the running back position and may end up being a wide receiver or return specialist at the next level. McCluster got a lot of all purpose yardage as a combination running back/receiver in Mississippi’s offense but he has had ball security issues over the years and needs to prove he can avoid turnovers if he wants to prove a player his size can contribute. He has the speed to turn a short dump off pass into a long touchdown with just a single missed tackle. Source: NFL.com
It never freaking fails, I thought we finally had a brain in this upper management, then they do this. WE NEED SOME FREAKING WRs! @Sweets I'm not doubting that he's a good player, we just DIDN'T NEED A RB! We already have JC and TJ!
I think McCluster is a dynamic weapon, I don't dispute that and I'm sure I'll love him. We just have a horrible defense and we had an opportunity to upgrade that with a sure starter at NT or even OLB. McCluster is going to be a kick returner and slot receiver.
I thought about the possibility of making him into a slot WR, I just don't really like it when a guy (as far as I know) has no experience at it.
He actually played it some in college. He is a pretty good route runner and really good hands. Not a big target though. There's no LB or S that will be able to cover him.
From his scouting report at Mocking the Draft: Pass Catching: Can make the tough catch all over the field. Smooth and fluid receiver that has plenty of experience playing in the slot. Totaled 130 receptions over his four year career at Ole Miss. Could very well end up playing wide receiver at the next level.
Not off hand, but its not very good. In the 4.5 range. Its overrated anyway's, particularly for a slot WR I think Devin Hester had a crap 40
Watched some highlight film on this kid and damn he's freaking fast and quick as crap. When McCluster got space forget about it....he's gone. Racked up 278 yards and 4 td's against Eric Berry's defense. McCluster was surprisingly tough too, he's willing to stick his nose in and block and broke a few tackles on top of that.
