Chiefs To Retire Linebacker Derrick Thomas' #58

The Chiefs announced Tuesday that the team will retire Derrick Thomas' jersey number, 58, this season in a ceremony that honors the legendary linebacker the same year he enters the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Thomas' hall of fame ring will be presented to the late player's family during halftime of the Dec. 6 home game against Denver. Thomas' number will be the 10th to be retired by the Chiefs.

I'm surprised it took this long to retire DT's number...

 

Word. Why wait until he was voted in to the HOF? Should've been done within 3 years after his death.

i would imagine the owner but of course i am a raiders fan and al makes all the decisions

Yeah this did take 2 long. but with it being done now...im sure that no one even thought 2 ask 2 take that number after he died. He was and will always be my favorite Chief 4ever. I cant wait 4 his enshrinement. DT HAS ANOTHER SACK!

 

I agree this should have been done before now. I think they need a pic of the game when he got 7 sacks. I like the Chiefs, Ex-Dallas Texans, but am not a big fan but I will always remember that game.

Yea for some reason I thought they did this the season after he died. But I am glad it's getting done.
