Chiefs Won't Consider Tennesseee FS Eric Berry With The No. 5 Pick?

Discussion in 'Kansas City Chiefs' started by BigBlueBruiser, Mar 22, 2010.

  1. Tennessee free safety Eric Berry looks like a top-10 pick, but the team that takes him is going to be picking against history. Of the five top-10 safeties this decade, none has had franchise-player impact: Roy Williams (Dallas, eighth overall, 2002), Sean Taylor (Washington, fifth overall, 2004), Michael Huff (Oakland, seventh, 2006), Donte Whitner (Buffalo, eighth, 2006), LaRon Landry (Washington, sixth, 2007). Atlanta GM Thomas Dimitroff calls the safety-at-the-top-of-the-draft debate a conundrum. "It's been on my mind a lot lately," he said, "and I realize I'm speaking out of both sides of my mouth here, but Berry's a really good player. It's been on my mind quite a bit recently. You want the good hitter with hip movement, able to turn and run, but then reality sets in. I was talking to [Kansas City GM] Scott Pioli about Berry, and I said, 'Scott, this guy's your pick.' And he said, 'You know how I feel about safeties that early.' And I understand.''

I read about this earlier, I really want them to pick Berry but I'm coming to the realization that they won't. I started with OT and moved to Berry, now I'm leaning back toward an OT. Likely Bulaga if Okung is off the board.

They should definitely consider him, he's the best player in the draft.

But from a positional value/needs standpoint, LT all the way!

Eric berry wud be a good pick up, but other things could work too maybe a wide reciever, like Golden Tate, or maybe a linebacker. In my opinion they need to pick up eric berry I mean him plus page wud make a good combo, but we will see. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chiefs traded down either.

Who ahead of us is likely to take Okung? Serious question. I remember reading about it a week or so ago, but I can't remember back that far. :icon_cheesygrin:

Latest rumor is the Lions but I seriously doubt they'll pass on McCoy or Suh. I believe he'll go number 4 to the Redskins if the Lions don't take him.

Pioli only likes linemen that high in the draft. Look as far as last year.

The Lions will see Okung as a better prospect than McCoy or Suh. He upgrades two OL positions (Backus slides to LG) and will be better financially (keep Stafford upright and throwing deep to Megatron)

Without a left tackle they have wasted a #1 overall (Matthew Stafford) and #2 overall pick (Calvin Johnson). By drafting Suh or McCoy, sure, their run defense will improve, but Stafford can't throw when he is on his back, and that will be $60Million or whatever it was down the drain.

I just find it hard to believe they'll pass on Suh or McCoy but either way Okung won't get past the Redskins.
