Somebody had to take the fall for the Chiefs' woeful defense in 2009, and in the end, it wound up being coordinator Clancy Pendergast. From what we hear, Pendergast's departure was expected for some time now, as he was not head coach Todd Haley's first choice upon arriving in Kansas City a year ago. The firing of defensive line coach Tim Krumrie also came as no shock, since he was a holdover from Herm Edwards' staff. In one season under Pendergast, the Chiefs finished 30th in total defense, 31st against the run and 29th in points allowed, making little progress as the campaign wore on. Source: Pro Football Weekly
