When Cliff Avril finally agreed to sign the franchise contract with the Detroit Lions last year, he wouldn't confirm or deny he had rejected a three-year, $30 million offer from the team.

Avril was more forthcoming during an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio on Friday. When asked how difficult it was to turn down the Lions' three-year offer, Avril admitted he felt he was worth more.

"Last year, going into it, I felt like with all the deals made around me, that wasn't significant enough for what they were trying to offer me," Avril said. "I didn't think that was the right deal to take, so I just played the (franchise) tag. Here we are again. Hopefully, we can figure something out and get my worth."

Avril admitted his age also gave him confidence with the decision.

"I felt like I was still in my prime, I feel like I'm still improving. I felt like, at the worst in the following year, I would be able to get at least that same deal."
