The Colts addressed two significant needs in the opening hour of free agency, signing former Lions OT Gosder Cherilus and CB Greg Toler, formerly of the Cardinals, the team announced Tuesday.

The 28-year old Cherilus, originally drafted in the first round (No. 17 overall) by the Lions in 2008, should bolster Andrew Luck's leaky protection from a season ago and add a strong run-game presence to the right side of the Indianapolis O-line. Cherilus should help stabilize the group, as he has started 71 of the 75 games in which he has appeared.

Toler, who spent his first three NFL seasons in the desert, will have a strong chance to compete for a starting job alongside Vontae Davis. The 28-year old appeared in 11 games (two starts) for the Cardinals a season ago, logging eight pass breakups and a pair of INTs.
