Jerraud Powers will become the first rookie cornerback to start a season opener for the Indianapolis Colts in nearly two decades. Coach Jim Caldwell confirmed today that the team’s third-round draft pick is expected to start in place of right-side starter Marlin Jackson on Sunday when the Colts open the season against Jacksonville in Lucas Oil Stadium. “If he does start, he won’t be the first (rookie) to start in this league,†Caldwell said. “The skill level was there,†Caldwell said. “He’s a mature individual for his age.
