Chuck Pagano expects Anthony Castonzo to be ready for the Indianapolis Colts’ regular-season opener, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t wince when his starting left tackle hobbled off the field Saturday evening.

Castonzo sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee on the third play of the game, when right tackle Gosder Cherilus and Cleveland Browns linebacker Paul Kruger rolled up on the back of his knee.

Figuratively speaking, Pagano felt Castonzo’s pain.

“Absolutely,’’ he said during a Sunday conference call. “You never want to lose anybody (to injury), particularly the guy that’s protecting the blindside of your quarterback.’’

Castonzo insisted after the Browns game that he would be ready for the Sept. 8 regular-season opener against the Oakland Raiders. The magnetic resonance imaging test confirmed a mild sprain to his MCL.
