GM Martin Mayhew confirmed that negotiations with WR Calvin Johnson over a contract extension are progressing, and said he intends to meet with Johnson’s agent in the near future. Mayhew said the Lions can afford to enter free agency without restructuring Johnson’s contract, despite his $21 million salary for 2012. “We’ve got a plan to deal with Calvin’s (salary cap) number,†Mayhew said. Shouldn't be hard to negotiate. Should go like this... Good Morning Calvin. What do you want. *insert Calvin's answer* Done. Congrats.
yep, he obviously should be the highest paid WR in the game. However, they've got to do something creative because they can't have $21 mill hit their cap this season for a WR.
