Financial transparency has been a consistent theme amid the NFL's labor dispute-turned-lockout, as the NFL Players Association has demanded to see the owners' books to justify a rollback in the share of revenues paid the players. Apparently, that can go both ways. Sports consultant Marc Ganis says that as a counter move, NFL owners have discussed the notion of demanding that players disclose their off-the-field revenues from endorsements generated because of their NFL ties. "It's on the mind of a number of owners," Ganis said during NFL meetings this week, adding that it would be difficult to include endorsement income as part of the total revenue pie. "Everybody wants to settle this matter, but if it is going to continue, then this would be one of the courses of action that may be pursued." Source: USAToday
Oh crap!!! It's starting to get dirty now! But i don't blame the Owners for doing this as a countermeasure, I've personally don't think owners need to open up their books to their employers. Because let’s be honest if you asked your boss to let you see his books and profits he would fire you in an instant.
It's a good point. Especially with the likes of Brees and Manning heading up a bunch of legal crap on the other side. How much extra income are you guys getting because you are allowed to play in the National Football League? Sure as hell wouldn't be getting that money if you were at any other job. 2010 Fortunate 50 - SI.com Peyton bringing in $15,000,000 a year in endorsements...
I totally agree! It seems like the attempt of the NFLPA to try to squeeze more money out of the owners might have just taken a turn in the opposite direction, and having big star players like Manning or Brady filling suit will not help their cause specially since you see the Mannings with the Oreo commercials, and Brady endorsing Uggs i highly doubt it that the NFL or the Owners are receiving a piece of that money
lets be clear here, the players are "not" trying to squeeze more money out of the owners. the owers want to pay the players less. the players were perfectly fine with keeping the terms of the CBA that the owners just opted out of early. yes the owners have to invest to money into the stadiums and all that comes with owning a team but the players invest their bodies for the league. to me the best deal would be keep the cuts of the pie the same but take the assinie money being given to unproven rookies and allow that to filter to the vets and then force the players to take care of the retired players which they are supposed to do from their share.
what about the money that the NFL "gave" to the NFL Alumni? And smeag is right they aren't asking for a crapload more money but with the way the dealings went the players would end up with less money then they made last season, actually the take would be what they made in 08 or 09 I believe.
I don't see how it's relevant at all. Maybe 20 NFL players currently playing received a significant amount of money from endorsements. This is out of 1700 active players. This is perhaps the most stupid statement in the entire stretch of CBA negotiations. It almost makes AP's slavery comments seem justified. "Now that you're in the NFL, we receive a cut of all your future earnings"
I'm waiting for the "I know what you are but what am I" part of this whole fiasco. Do the owners realize that this isn't A)making them look better B) helping their cause and C)making the fans care any more about this. I don't understand how this would help at all! As started there's what ,1700 active NFL players and only a handful of them make ANY money from endorsements. EVERY owner brings home a ridiculous amount of money and this is just insane. I really hope the NFL dies and the NFL players all go to the UFL. If the UFL was smart they'd hold emergency meetings to get 6 more teams in their league and start talking to NFL players about bringing their talents to South Beach...but not really South Beach. But you know what I mean. Stop being little snitches and END THE LOCKOUT!!!!
Yeah but the boss at McDonalds is far different than a BILLIONAIRE owner in the NFL. The players want to play, the owners won't let them. I think it's fair for the players to ask why they can't just get paid like they were and call it a day! I think they need to be honest with the players, open the books and call it a day! Honestly though, I blame part of this on Vincent Jackson and Chris Johnson. Shut up and play!
steve hit the nail on the head, it's nothing more than a snitch fest right now. disgusting, makes me wanna freaking puke watching these billionares bicker with millionares. yeah that's what i need from one of my only outlets in life. freaking jerks.
