The Dallas Cowboys have cut cornerback Sterling Moore, according to a source, this afternoon as the club works to trim their roster down to the mandatory 53 players by the 5 p.m. Saturday deadline.

The cut of Moore, a former SMU player, comes as a bit of a surprise considering the Cowboys were already thin at the cornerback position. Cornerbacks Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne, Orlando Scandrick and rookie B.W. Webb are projected to make the final roster. Claiborne, the first defensive player drafted in 2012, didn’t play in any preseason games because of a left knee injury.

Moore tweeted Saturday afternoon, “Welp Cowboys Nation. Is been real. I have #NoRegrets.â€￾

In late November last year, the Cowboys signed Moore off of New England’s practice squad.
