According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Dallas Cowboys are considering using the franchise tag on outside linebacker Anthony Spencer. A first-round pick out of Purdue in 2007, Spencer has been a full-time starter opposite DeMarcus Ware the last three seasons, totaling 196 tackles, 17 quarterbacks sacks and eight forced fumbles with one interception and 10 passes defensed. The 6-foot-3, 257-pound Spencer was the 26th overall pick of the '07 draft and earned $1.001 million in base salary in 2011, the final season of a $9 million rookie contract. The franchise tender for a linebacker is projected to be worth around $9 million in fully guaranteed base salary 2012. NFL teams may begin using the franchise tag on February 20, with the deadline to use the tender falling on March 5. Source: Mac's Football Blog
I'm going to ignore my personal opinion on the both of your responses and simply ask.. if we don't keep Spencer, what is YOUR plan for replacing him? No good alternative?
Too many people think him a bust bc he is not Demarcus ware but Spencer does his Job and does it well he is ranked in top in his position which isn't the same as ware
Spencer might not be the sexy player most people want, but he does enough to warrant us to try and keep him for at least this year.
The source: Blogging the boys.com The Anthony Spencer Challenge - Blogging The Boys Had as many sacks as Clay Matthews, more tackles and TFL. What's so bad about Spencer? He doesn't flex after every big play he makes. He doesn't have long blonde hair, and white skin? I'll take Spencer back with open arms. Get a better secondary, Dline, and replace Brooking and James. Our OLB are tops in the league. Ragman, what are you not seeing.. that us paying attention are seeing? He's not as good as Demarcus Ware? Is that what you're wanting? .. last I checked, that's pretty rare.
The majority of our fans purely follow the media and what they say is gospel to them. Unfortunate, but I guess it is what it is. Learn football or stop posting imo
I read the same report a different one also about spencer form same site. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I heard this morning on a local TV show that the Cowboys are now backing off of that. Don't know their source. Stay tuned.
