Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Defends Lopsided Loss To The Eagles

  1. The Cowboys allowed the Philadelphia Eagles to rack up 495 yards of total offense, possess the ball for over 42 minutes and not punt until the fourth quarter on Sunday night. When the dust settled, the Cowboys were handed a 34-7 beat-down by a division rival, but team owner and general manager Jerry Jones doesn't seem too concerned. "I like the way our guys competed," Jones said Tuesday during his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM). "I thought in the second half that we could and would have a chance to come back." Jones added: "I am glad that we will have a chance to redeem ourselves and play them one more time. Although, it's going to be an all-day job to get out of there with a win. But all in all, I viewed it as a game that can happen to you in the NFL when these things get lopsided like that early." Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan presented Philadelphia with some bulletin board material in August, indirectly calling the Eagles the "all-hype team" and added that the Cowboys "we're going to beat their [expletive] when we play them." The Cowboys fell behind 24-0 at halftime and 34-0 with 13 minutes remaining. But Jones said that Ryan's words had no impact on the Sunday night outcome. "I've never seen that make a difference in any ballgame," Jones told the New School show with Shan & RJ. "At the end of the day, how you do your job as an offensive lineman or how you do your job as a safety, that talk on that board, I've never seen it impact anything." Jones also talked about inside linebacker Sean Lee, who said Monday that he was not certain if he would play Sunday against Seattle because of an injured left wrist, and that Lee's injury was a concern and there was "some ligament damage" but added that there was a possibility that Lee could "cast it up" and return to play.
