I got the idea for this thread cause anthony henrys comment. He said that dallas is the best secondary in the league. Who do you think has a better secondary eagles or cowboys? Eagles FS brian dawkins S quintin mikkel CB asante samuel CB sheldon brown CB lito sheppard Cowboys FS ken hamlin S roy williams CB pacman CB Terrance newman CB anthony henry
I'd be very happy to have either one. Both are very deep at CB and have their share of playmakers. At safety, the Cowboys have a big question mark at SS, while the Eagles have their own question mark as well with Mikell (or Considine if he manages to pull off a miracle and steal the job from Quint) playing his first season as a starter. Overall, I think the Cowboys' safeties have the edge, but it's up to Pacman to shake off any rust and play up to his potential to make Dallas' secondary distinctively better than ours.
Horrible name spellings aside, it's tough to tell how the changes to both teams will blend. Plus with different looks and strategies based on situations from both defensive coordinators, I don't think you can judge until they hit the field.
Eagles are more proven, Dallas's has more potential, but there are more questions Out of the top 3 CB's per team. Newman is better than the Eagles CB's, but Brown and Shepard are both better than Henry, even Henry at 100%. Jones is still to much of a question mark to be a deciding factor, just being out of the game a full season. Hard for me to judge past the top 3 at CB cause I dont know much about what the Eagles have, so its hard to be objective. Factor in long term, Ike could be a huge steal, but Dallas has a potential steal in Scandrick. jenkins is basicly gonna take over for Henry when he's cut after the season At S. I would take Dawkins over both Hamlin and Williams even at his age. Williams has been losing it for a couple years now. His coverage problems aside, he just isnt the headhunter he once was. He is good in run support, but not the feared player he was. Mickel is the weak link, but I dont see him as a bad player. As far as depth I would give Considine and Demps the edge over Watkins and Brown. Particulary considering neither is a SS. Watkins is good in run support, but would get destroyed in man coverage than we need from our SS. Probobly worse than Williams. Brown is the opposite, he is a former CB so naturally he has man coverage skills. But he is considered weak in run support at FS, much less SS I call it a wash. It really hard to be obkective because 1- I am a Cowboy fan 2- I know more about Dallas personek than the Eagles
So basically there even cant wait to see what happens during the season. Cant wait till we play the boyz in week 2.
Ill say this Top 3 CB's- Eagles Top S/Secondary QB- Eagles S's- Wash Depth- Dallas Potential- Dallas flexability- Dallas Dallas gets 3 IMO to Eagles 2, but Eagles get two of the most important ones. So its about a wash. Plus I dont think Im highballing the role of Dawkins/Hamlin lining up the secondary.
As much as it pains me to say it, I'd take the Turds DB's. Newman is the best corner in the NFC imo, Samuel is a good one but he takes a lot of chances so whilst you get big plays, he will give up some plays and it'll be interesting to see him play a lot more man with Philly than he did in New England. Pac Man (sorry, Adam.....how about Adam "Ant" Jones?) might have missed a year but he is a talent, Jenkins will be decent and Henry is at least serviceable. Williams is a good run stopper at safety, Hamlin went the Pro Bowl and Watkins has at least gotten some experience and can contribute. Dawkins is a great safety, Sheldon Brown is one of the best tackling corners about and Sheppard can still play but Dallas has more all round talent and depth for me.
