Dez Bryant assures that it wasn’t anger that got him flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct late in the third quarter Sunday, Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News reports. Bryant ripped off his helmet to yell at an official, which is against the rules, and had to be calmed down and escorted off to the sidelines by Jason Witten. “I wasn’t angry at the ref,†Bryant said. “I was trying to see what the call was. I thought they called pass interference on the defense. When I was trying to come out of my break, the guy was tugging on me a little bit and I was trying to break away from it. “He threw the flag and the whole time I’m thinking it’s a flag on him. Then I took my helmet off and I didn’t know that that was a penalty. I was kind of shocked and then I heard the ref say, ‘He took his helmet off.’ I know now not to take my helmet off. If you go back and look at the play, you’ll see I’m shocked. I’m confused.†Source: Associated Press SteveRobWhatever's Take: Somehow he thought it was ok to take his helmet off to make sure he got his complaint to the ref clearly. Someone needs to really get this hothead in check, his emotions have been getting the best of him of late. Being emotional is one thing, being stupid and costing your team field position is something else.
How does a player not know a rule that the majority of fans know? It's kind of reminiscent of McNabb not knowing how overtime rules worked.
Because of his behavior, he's going to cost the Cowboys a game. It's not a question of if. It's a question of when. Just watch.
What an idiot... Not taking off your helment on the field has been a rule for years and years. Instead of giving that pointless wonderlic test at the combine, they should quiz all incoming rookies on the rules in the NFL instead.
