CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs have acquired pitcher Rich Harden from the Oakland Athletics in a six-player trade, a day after the rival Milwaukee Brewers landed CC Sabathia. The Cubs will receive the right-handed Harden and righty Chad Gaudin for pitcher Sean Gallagher, outfielders Matt Murton and Eric Patterson, and minor leaguer John Donaldson. Source: Associated Press
fragile rich is only worth something IF he stays healthy IF he stays healthy, the cubbies are going to be tough
I wanted this guy. He may be injury prone, but when he's not he's the best pitcher in baseball. I think you can count on him staying healthy for a 2 month stretch, which is all the Cubs are asking of him. Good move for Chicago, imo.
if Harden stays healthy (big IF) the Cubbies are gonna be a problem If he ends up on the DL, theyre screwed. Good move for Chicago though, especially if they want to keep pace with the Brew Crew
None of those prospects are anything special. This is a major steal for the Cubs. You don't usually see Billy Beane give away a star for pretty much nothing, which leads me to believe your second post could come true. I wouldn't be too surprised if Harden is suffering from a minor injury no one knows about right now. When Billy Beane makes a deal like this, he has to know something the rest of us don't know.
Agreed. The top competition have gotten their pitchers now, so there is no reason Gillick shouldn't be able to get a deal done. I guarantee you that Bedard will be in a Phillies uniform within the week.
Harden may be injury prone but he's got a 2.34 ERA right now. Lets see here, Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, Barry Zito, Dan Haren, and now Rich Harden he's either let walk via FA or traded away. Patterson, Gallagher, and Murton may be nothing special but do have a bright future in the game of baseball.
IP by Harden (per year): 2003: 74.2 2004: 189.2 2005: 128 2006: 46.2 2007: 25.2 2008: 77 He hasn't pitched over 120+ innings in 3 years. I can see why Oakland had enough of this crap.
the Cybs failed to get C.C Sabathia. but ended up getting this guy. he went out and threw a gem last night. great move by the cubs. its paying off
The only two guys who worked out are bolded. He's a smart guy and knows how to build a team. We've got Inoa to look forward to in the future. Something tells me that kid isn't getting traded away (at least for a long time).
Bedard? No way... We'll give you Richie Sexson for free if you want...but not Bedard. We're still in the race!!! :moe:
Harden pitched the night before he was traded to the Cubs? Thats news to me. I remember his last start before today's Cubs debut being in an Oakland A's uniform against the White Sox last sunday and LOST.
