The Chicago Cubs told Matt Garza's agent that they would trade the right-hander to add inventory for the future, Garza told ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine on Friday. "They told my agent [earlier in the week] that they were going to move me," Garza said. "They said as much as they like me they need to add inventory for the future. I want to stay, but that doesn't seem possible now." The Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays have been told to make their final bids for the pitcher, sources told Levine. Fox Sports reported late Thursday that the Rangers are closing in on a deal for Garza. Garza said he was originally scheduled to pitch on Saturday against the Colorado Rockies but was told by the Cubs he will start on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks instead if he's not traded first. Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded Sounds like he'll be heading to Texas for a package that includes Mike Olt
Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded Yahoo Sports today says that there's still some negotiating going on. After the Rangers saw Garza's medical records, they went back to the bargaining table to see if they could get Garza for less than the Cubs wanted for him.
Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded just send the whole team away freaking wonderboy!
Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded This isn't the way I thought it'd go with Epstein in control. Always next year right?
Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded I like what Epstein is doing. It's going to be a work in progress. Olt could start at 3rd for y'all tomorrow. He needs to find a way to move Soriano. The Cubs will be contenders in 2016
Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded Yea i've been liking what Theo has been doing. It finally feels like the cubs have a plan. As opposed to Jim Hendry when it just felt like he was throwing money at whoever looked good at the moment. I'm ok with waiting a couple more years as long as it feels like we're building towards something.
Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded In my view,he has been sticking his head further and further up his butt more and more every day! if he does not soon do enough to bring more fans in tune to what he is doing,he won't last till 2016. the dumbest thing they ever did was not go after geraldi after he got canned in tampa. it has been wait until next year for me way too freaking long!
Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded This is only, what, his second or third year? This team was too far gone to turn around that quickly. I really believe our patience as cubs fans will be rewarded after Theo's plan really develops. We already have some good young pieces that will contribute in a couple years. That's more than we could really say at any point in the previous regime other than a couple years at the beginning of the millennium. We've already waited our whole lives, and now we cant wait a couple more years to give this guy time to fully implement his (already proven successful) method? I call bullcrap.
Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded I Think pigs will fly before the cubs will even get to the series, much less win it. they should have let that damn goat into wrigley way back when! lol I Think they should build a new stadium and maybe get rid of all that bad mojo from wrigley!
Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded Honestly i'm not opposed to getting a new stadium. I think the minor league (at best) conditions at Wrigley play a huge part in their lack of success. I've been to Wrigley, I love it. But I want a world series more than I want a historic stadium.
Re: Chicago Cubs Starting Pitcher Matt Garza Was Told By Agent He Will Be Traded same with me! former cub catcher, randy hundley is from my hometown and he sent my parents tickets to a cubs game way back when, but i was too little to go,so seeing a game at wrigley is way up on my bucket list.but i am all for building a new stadium instead of spending 300 million to touch wrigley field up.
It's a done deal. Garza has been traded to Texas 3B Mike Olt, and right handed pitchers C. J. Edwards and Justin Grimm, plus 2 more players to be named later Chicago Cubs pitcher Matt Garza traded to Texas Rangers - chicagotribune.com
Well I'll be damned. I knew Edwards and Olt were going to be included. Didn't think they would throw Grimm in there.
From what I hear this is a good trade. Olt sounds like he'll be serviceable at 3rd, and Edwards sounds like he is on the upswing. Still young, hits 96 with his fastball, has a really good curve. After his changeup develops he'll be a ready solid starter a couple years down the road.
I think the centerpiece of this deal was Edwards. I heard this morning that he has over 200 K's and hasn't given up a HR in 31 starts.
