Former Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Reeves, who drafted Michael Vick with the top overall pick in 2001, went back in time and talked about how disappointed he was upon hearing of his quarterback’s transgressions. He was one of many that had invested something valuable in Vick and got burned. Yet he still remained loyal to him, and believes the organization should have as well. “When Mike really needed them they turned their back on him in my opinion,†said Reeves. “They could have been a big supporter and they let him go. I think it could have been handled differently. I wasn’t there so I don’t know the organization’s standpoint, but I thought they could have been more supportive and instead they severed ties with him.†Source: The Redzone
The organization could of been mote loyal but at the same time look at the position he put them in. I can see where Reeves is coming from but I understand where the Falcons came from too.
I think this topic needs to die. The Falcons got a fresh start when they drafted Matt Ryan. Michael Vick got a fresh start when he signed with the Eagles. Could the Falcons have stayed loyal to Vick? Yeah but i'm sure they didn't know he would be a changed man when he got out of prison.
Agree DaBears. Vick is a different person at a different place. Falcons have moved on with Matt Ryan. If only the media could move on.
Moving on doesn't sell magazines and papers. They're just tapping in to whatever gets them the most publicity this week.
Vick lied to the organization and the owner when it all came out. Personally, if I was the owner I wouldn't have kept him around. I don't believe in supporting criminals and liars. With that being said all that is in the past now and Vick served his punishment so let the crap go already!
Yeah, Vick was lying about having nothing to do with dog fighting for how long? You lie, you are going to get burned.
