Asked whether the winner of the fight between B.J. Penn and Georges St. Pierre could vault to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings, White said no. "I don't think they change at all," White said. "Anderson Silva is far and above the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. Sorry Dana....but GSP is not that far behind Silva imo. The only thing you could possibly question about St Pierre is his chin....still overall it's closer than Dana thinks.
The best pound for pound fighter argument is always so hard to call because of the vast difference in depth distributed through the weight classes. The heavyweight division has historically been the most shallow, with fewer "elite" fighters in it's ranks, and the lighter weights are so deep. I think Dana is just promoting his biggest money maker right now, read that as "pimpin'".
Yep, and when the Spider loses Dana will be all over GSP or Penn as the best in the world....it's all a show....he's a pimp like you said.
The only problem I have with that statement DD is, if the Spider keeps to his word and retires in the next, what(?), 5 fights he may not ever lose. I am almost inclined to believe that Anderson is leaving for one reason. (Dana.)
I think we are agreeing without even knowing it. I think you are right about Dana stroking Silva. I also think that is the reason Silva is leaving. He sees what Dana is all about, and doesn't want to just keep making money for him. Fighters are no different than football players dude, they have a limited time in the game. Silva is getting out rich and leaving the bullcrap at the top of his career.
