By all indications, we’re now less than a week away from likely finding out the conclusion to the curious case of Oshiomogho Atogwe accordintg to Frank Tadych of NFL.com. The key date in the scenario is June 1. The Rams hold exclusive negotiating rights with Atogwe, a restricted free agent who didn’t sign his tender offer, until that date. On June 1, the Rams hold the option of extending an offer at 110 percent of his salary ($6.3 million in 2009 as a franchise player) to retain his rights or releasing him to become an unrestricted free agent. As Steve Wyche explained a couple of weeks back, the Rams’ options to avoid letting Atogwe leave with no compensation are to work out a long-term deal, extend his free-agent tender at nearly $7 million (which they haven’t shown any willingness to do) or work out a trade, which would also require him to sign the tender.
