So the Texans were the last team to join the NFL, when do you think the league will expand again.

I hope it is not for a long time. While there are cities that could support an NFL team there are teams in cities that can not. Before they expand they need to have some of the teams move around and make sure that all the team have a good footing before starting up any new teams.

I don't believe the NFL will be adding any more teams now or in the near future, 32 teams is enough IMO and adding any more really wouldn't do much good.

I think they will try to...maybe to 34...I don't think they should...

The league is already saturated with mediocre talent.Where they gonna get players good enough to compete at the NFL level.
Places like Jacksonville,Carolina and even Indy,up to the point they got Peyton ,are all NASCAR,left turn lovin' hicks who don't follow football.

Jacksonville doesn't deserve a team. I'd move them before expanding.

    What these guys said.

Gotta have cities interested in the game before you give them a team.

Crap they gave the entire state of AZ a team and it took them going to the Super Bowl for them to get excited about it.

That's hard to hold against a city if the weather is nice the vast majority of the year. That's why the southern teams and L.A. teams have always had a hard time filling stadiums when their teams aren't good. There are better things to do than go get pissed off because your team just got ripped. If it's freezing butt cold the choices are 1. sit on your couch and watch the game or 2. go to the game.

Oh, and on the topic, the NFL does not need to expand until there is a great surplus of talent. See the mistake the NBA made in the '90s. They could expand but they too it too far.

If the league expands, won't they have to expand by at least two teams, so things come out even?

That's were I think the problem would be, because you would have 2 divisions with 5 teams, and all the others would have 4. You would have to add another eight teams to keep the divisions even.

I think unless the UFL at some point pulls an AFL-style merger, we probably won't see anything happen in the 2010's.

There were odd numbers in divisions for a while before the last expansion. 32 makes the schedule formula pretty easy though. It's always about money. The owners divide their big fat chunk of change by 32 right now. If 2 more teams bring enough extra revenue that they all make more money dividing it by 34, it will happen. Otherwise, it won't.

lessens the talent pool...I'd hate to see exapnsion with teams like Jacksonville struggling to sell tickets...

A 32-team league looks like the perfect format. 8 four-team divisions, clear schedule rotation. It's all square.

They could go to 36 using Canadian (Toronto/Montreal) or Mexican cities (Mexico City Banditos!) having 2 conferences of 18 teams. Then they could bring back the old NFC/AFC Central and have 3 divisions of 4 teams and 2 of 3 teams.

Obviously neither perfect or realistic, and will never happen, but its something to think about.

With Goodell in office & layin' the lumber, the NFL will probably be down to 16 teams in a few years. :icon_wink:

With teams that actually had to lay off some employees in the last year with the economic situation, I don't think it would be a good idea to expand any time soon. I'll be interested to see how attendance fairs this year with 9.whatever unemployment rate. Plenty of people out of work at the moment and not just McDonalds clerks. I think in the coming years we might see another expansion but it has been nice having even numbers of teams for a while. If so.....what cities get the teams? LA? San Antonio? Oklahoma City? Never see any mention of an Alabama expansion but seems to me there's some pretty good college following there.

Jacksonville fails to sell tickets because people in Jacksonville are broke, not because they "don't like football"

    **********Automerged Doublepost**********

Alabama won't be getting a team any time soon, as a matter of fact, I'll be surprised if they EVER get a team.

A lot of people are so accustomed to NCAA ball that they DESPISE all things NFL, support would be lacking.

Aside from that Alabama is one of the poorest states in the nation

will they expand at some point...yes....in the near future probably not, but the nfl will try to keep a stranglehold on the sports world and they should
