Miami Dolphins starting cornerback Dimitri Patterson suffered a groin injury in the third quarter of the season-opener against Cleveland, and was shut down for the majority of the second half.

Patterson, who starts opposite Brent Grimes and plays mostly the nickel spot, pulled down two interceptions in the first half of Miami's road game against Cleveland.

Patterson acknowledged he's been nursing the groin problem since training camp, and was certain the trainers kept him sidelined for precautionary reasons.

"It is nothing serious. I'll be ready to play," Patterson said of next Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts. "It is a maintenance thing. They want to make sure I didn't pull anything or make it worse so I would be out a number of weeks."

The Dolphins entered Sunday's game shorthanded at cornerback because of injuries rookie cornerbacks Jamar Taylor (groin) and Will Davis (toe) are nursing. Neither practiced this week, and the Dolphins were forced to carry just four true cornerbacks into Sunday's game.
