Dolphins Coach Tony Sparano Defends Decision To Go For Two Early In The Fourth

It seemed strange when Dolphins coach Tony Sparano opted to go for two with 14:54 remaining and his team up 12-0. A fade pass to Brandon Marshall came nowhere close to completion, and the Denver Broncos ended up catching them at 15-all and winning in overtime on Tim Tebow’s latest miracle. Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher ripped that decision on CBS, but I haven’t seen it yet. Sparano himself defended the decision afterwards. “It was the right decision,†Sparano said. “It was that time in the game. It was a fourth quarter decision. You don’t go for one there. Every football equation tells you to go for two in that situation. We went for two. We did not convert at that point, and still got the ball back and ended up going three scores. We still got 15 points.†True, but a 16-point output — which would have happened with a simple extra point and Dan Carpenter’s third and final field goal of the day — would have forced the Broncos to come up with two touchdowns AND two two-point conversions. “Those are all what-ifs,†Sparano said. “I mean, you go up 15 points in the game, it turns it into a three-score game really, and they ended up making the plays.â€

Had it worked, the Fins would have won. That's nothing that needs defense after the fact.

This. if they kicked the pat game would have been over. Fire his butt now. Screw the bye week. Makes not sense. Hire Cower now. Give him what he wants. This needs to stop. Hate the Dolphins but this is stupid.

Exactly! There is no way to justify that decision at all.

Don't compare failure to him. Failure has a chance to win.

You know who I would like for this job. Don't laugh but I think Dennis Green would do good. Like his style. Don't judge him on his Cards job. Dude is a good coach.

That doesn't sound half bad. Sometimes coaches get in over their heads with abysmal teams. I think the good of Denny far outweighs the bad but I still don't see that happening. I think the Dolphins should lean towards someone who hasn't been out of football for as long.

Can't they hire me for like the last few weeks of the season? Seriously, you could pay me as much as he makes and I promise you, I could coach just as bad as this guy and get you the same results AND Andrew Luck.
