Dolphins CEO Mike Dee said Friday that Dolphins owner Steve Ross is prepared to pay "well more than 51 percent" of the total $400 million Sun Life Stadium renovation cost.

Dee made the statement at the Latin Builders Association luncheon at the InterContinental Hotel, where he announced the team will reimburse Miami-Dade County for the cost of the special election on the stadium upgrades.

"We are going to step up and reimburse the county for any cost associated with the special election," Dee said.

Although Dee wasn't more specific on how much Ross would pay, it's the first time he's gone that far in defining Ross' share. Previously the team has said Ross would pay at least $201 million, plus overruns, of the $400 million.

"We've been very clear that our participation is going to be well more than 51 percent," Dee said.

"A lot of speculation has been around that it would be a 51-49 deal. I can assure you — I'm not going to disclose all of the nuances of our negotiations with the county — but it's considerably more one-sided than that as it relates to the private contribution and the private sources."

The cost of the election is expected to be between $3 million and $5 million.
