The safe assumption is that veteran quarterbacks David Garrard and Matt Moore will battle for the Miami Dolphins' starting job, while first-round draft pick Ryan Tannehill -- who had just 19 starts at quarterback at Texas A&M-- sits, watches and learns. At least that's what Dolphins running back Reggie Bush expects to happen. "I would probably agree with you on that," Bush told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald in a Sunday column. "Ryan can watch the veterans and learn. When he gets the call, he'll be ready." According to Jackson, and most of the media that observed the team on a daily basis during OTAs and the team's June minicamp, Garrard appears to have the inside track for the job. if rodgers played from day one hed be no better than alex smith or david carr, he was horrid and scared as a young player. Who knows what guys like smith, carr, harrington, ect could have been if they sat for two years and developed their game like rodgers did for what? 3? 4 years?
Exactly, these are Rodgers first looks on the field considering he came in against prevent. He had 4 turnovers in his first 2 years with no TD's and completed less than 50% of his passes. I know it's a small sample size but I remember people saying "oh he didn't show anything so he can't replace Favre" so I guess you don't know. I think Tannehill is lucky he can sit and learn because as ready as Luck is and even RGIII for that matter, they are rookies and who knows how they will handle the speed and disappointment of a shaky rookie season.
And Tannehill has had only 19 starts as a qb. New position and just getting the mechanics down somewhat. Let him sit for a year. With the rookie contracts only 4 years you really can't let him sit too long.
you could easily let them sit 2-3 years still, fans wouldnt like it but if hes ready to take over in that 3rd year he would likely have a big pay check coming his way regardless. thats WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than seeing a guy like kolb or cassel, or flynn play a few games and throw a bunch of money/picks/players at a team for them, at least you know what you have in your own guy rather than just what youve been coaxed by coaches like andy reid into thinking you have
that is right. was just thinking about the money involved. Heard on tv that the top 8 picks are going to have guaranteed contracts. That is too much money for them to let the player sit unfortunately.
all that guaranteed money isnt a ridiculous amount anymore though, its not like them giving jamarcus, bradford, or stafford 50+ million guaranteed....the top pick gets like a $22 million deal, 8 probably gets what? $12 million? imo thats too much to pay for ryan tannehill but he was taken a half a round too soon to me, however if hes gonna be the #3 for at least a year they are handling it the right way....realistically $12.5 million guaranteed (what jake locker got last season) over 4 years is lower tier bottom of the pack, backup QB money anyway...and thats how it should be for guys like tannehill if they are gonna slightly reach for him and try to groom him for the future. guaranteed money doesnt mean much anymore when the total contract is a fraction of what it was two years ago, letting them sit for a few years or reaching for a QB, or even taking a position like WR or S very high is more economical now
I think I heard that the top 8 want all their money guaranteed. True, the amount is smaller. Fat Boy Russell should return all the money he stole but he spent it on syrup. Don't know what the big deal is about that crap. I got 16 ounces right now and all it does is make me itch.
