Dolphins rookie tight end Michael Egnew was counted on to be a contributor this season in the mold of Aaron Hernandez, but he's had a terrible camp. According to the Miami Herald, Egnew has dropped passes, missed assignments and not played fast. He seems overmatched according to the paper. Coach Joe Philbin says there's been some improvement. "I said to Mike Egnew on the field that I thought I saw some progress with him on the tape," Philbin said. "Even some more with him blocking wise, where we knew he was going to be behind the curve due to his experience in college, but there are some signs there." Source: CBSSports
Just a FYI to the Miami Herald, Jimmy Graham and Jermichael Finley did nothing until the end of each man's rookie season.
loved seeing him get yelled at for not blocking on hard knocks and come in and level a guy on the next play, it was great
I swear people are so spoiled with players dude, because guys like Gronk came in and destroyed people expect every prospect to do the same, but they don't realize that different college programs do different things with the TEs. Gronk was a true TE, Egnew is more of a WR/TE learning how to be a TE.
he gets ripped on in camp by the coaches a lot, the only reason this is news is because they are on hard knocks. Mike Sherman told him in a meeting he would cut him if he was the GM, doesnt mean hes on the roster bubble just means he had a lot to work on. Gronk is a mammoth, hernandez is a TE that is built more like a RB but probably wouldnt have had as much success right off the bat anywhere else, and like you said graham and finley were both SO RAW coming out contributing wasnt even an option when they were drafted
Exactly, Egnew's name has pop right now because of the show. It's been great to watch for everyone else. Michael Egnew reacts to Hard Knocks -- ktuu.com
