The Dolphins have signed defensive tackle Marvin Austin, a third-year player who played in eight games for the New York Giants last season.

Austin’s signing could be an indication the Dolphins are planning to be without defensive tackle Paul Soliai for at least another week.

Austin (6-2, 312), who attended North Carolina, was a second-round pick of the Giants in 2011, but he spent the season on injured reserve after sustaining a torn pectoral muscle in a pre-season game.

Austin, cut by the Giants in August as they got down to their final 53-man roster, has worked out for Detroit and Seattle since being released. He totaled eight tackles last season.
