The Miami Dolphins and wide receiver Brian Hartline are negotiating a multi-year contract that would pay him around $6 to $6.5 million per season, according to FOXSports.com.

However, a NFL source told the Sun Sentinel a signing doesn't appear imminent.

The reported annual salary is much more than most expected for Hartline, the four-year veteran from Ohio State, who figured to sign in the $4-$5 million a year range.

Hartline, the Dolphins' fourth-round pick in 2009, had a career-best 1,083 yards receiving last season on a career-best 74 receptions with one touchdown.

But even if Hartline signs for $6 million a year, the Dolphins, who had about $44 million to spend in free agency, would still have enough money to sign a top-tier free agent wide receiver such as Pittsburgh's Mike Wallace or Green Bay's Greg Jennings.

$6 mill per year seems a little high but it's looking like the market value for wide receivers is increasing very quickly so maybe that is his new value in this league.

The deal is based off of what Nelson got, plus inflation of about 3%.
