Yes, Donovan McNabb has once more publicly criticized the Redskins. In a recent phone interview with the Washington Post, McNabb questioned how the Redskins and their quarterback are handling things; ESPN picked up the story a little later on. These are the types of conversations that normally would barely register as a blip on the national sports radar. However, in this media climate, Robert Griffin III could eat a slice of pizza in Manhattan and it would make headlines.

Let’s allow that McNabb did provide some salient perspectives as one of a small fraternity of men who have walked a mile in RGIII’s shoes. It nonetheless did appear as if Donovan made a few backhanded slaps at Shanahan, under the guise of a sage ex-player who’s just trying to be helpful.

In the language of McNabb-ese: “One thing Andy Reid did is he never let the injured guys become the story if they were off to the side at practice. He thought it took away from the guys who were grinding and practicing every day.â€

Translation: I’m insinuating that Shanahan isn’t handling this situation as well as Andy Reid would have; Shanahan is either letting the inmates run the asylum or he’s desperate to make a show for the media, and the Reid I know would have never done that, so there.

More McNabbish: “It’s too much right now; it’s just too much… if you’re coming off ACL surgery, you don’t need to be having a press conference at OTAs. Every week? Really? It becomes a circus, a sideshow. It takes away from the focus of what those sessions are supposed to be about: the team.â€

Translation: I think Shanahan is pimping this guy out and he’s allowing a culture of celebrity to separate Griffin from the rest of the players.

Since his last outburst, McNabb has clearly learned how to better conceal his well-documented bitterness toward Mike Shanahan .

That was very tame for McNabb.

he should just shut up! he is making himself look like an even bigger butthole than he did last year saying rg3 would never work out in washington, and then calling himself a 1st ballott HOF! well, chunky boy, keep running your trap like you have and the slim chance you have of making it will fly off like fly crap in the wind!

I have no idea what that last post meant. Are you saying that McNabb is going to not be considered a great QB because of what he's saying?

Either way, 5 has a point. A coaches job is to protect his guys and when McNabb was hurt Reid didn't trot him out in front of the media. He let 5 focus on getting better and just running the team. No one was bigger than the team. Shanny doesn't run it that way. Dating back to when Terrel Davis had his concussion issues, Shanny likes the spotlight. McNabb is part of the media now so he's going to respond, in depth to questions asked about how other teams are run, how things are perceived, etc, etc. If you don't like what he says don't listen to it.

i am saying that if wants a chance to get into the hall of fame,he should shut up! these writers are the guys who elect the players, chris carter is a lot better player than mcnabb is,but because he praised himself every chance he got and constantlly put down other players,it cost him a 1st ballott hof induction.mcnabb has done nothing but that since he became an ex player.mcnabb is a great qb,perhaps the best ever eagle ever, and should be a hof 1st ballott inductee, but he should be more respectful of other players, especially ones he knows jack crap about!believe me,i saw DM carve up the redskins way too much to not give him credit for being a great qb!

Slow down. McNabb was a good QB, but not a great one. IMO, not worthy of HOF. But most certainly not 1st ballot.

Griffen IS the face of the Redskins. Everything he does will be reported and dissected by everyone. How's the knee? How's rehab coming along? Fans of the Skins want to know this stuff. Shanahan isn't a dummy.

As for your Griffin/Lebron comparison - I agree that both of their hype early in their careers was a bit much but you can't tell me that if Griffin can stay healthy for a few years in a row he won't be a league leader in multiple categories and possibly lead the Skins to the playoffs on a regular basis. The guy is a real talent and if his knees would just cooperate, maybe he'll get a real chance to show it.

McNabb was good. Not HoF in my opinion and I don't really think anyone cares what his opinions on RGIII and the Redskins are...however, McNabb has been there and done that as far as an NFL QB goes...so he actually could offer some good advice to Griffin.

as far as playing on the field he could, but what he does outside of football and how he does it is his business, nobody else's!
