Draft Stunners

Discussion in 'NFL Draft Discussion' started by diehardfinsfan54, Mar 30, 2008.

  1. Last year there was a couple of stunners. An as a dolphins fan I was so pissed I nearly blacked out when the Dolphins selected WR Ted Ginn Jr. with the 9th pick. Also Brady Quinn who I thought was an easy selection for the Dolphins droped all the way back to the Cleveland Browns who had to trade up to get him with Dallas. With the stunners last year I was wondering what might happen this year. Do you guys have any idea who might be stunned this year?

Atlanta should be good for something "stunning..."

Is it a prediciton to say there will be a Blockbuster Draft Day Trade?

I bet that someone picking between 10-20 makes a shocking pick, it tends to happen every year when a team badly needs a position filled so they reach with their first pick to fill in the gap straight away. I recall that Donte Whitner going to the Bills at #8 in 2006 got a lot of bad press.

Yeah there are always a fair few reaches but sometimes teams just don't really have any other option if they can't find anyone to trade with.

To me, that's when teams get in trouble...drafting a position just because of need. When teams reach for a position just to fill that "need," that's when things go bad...taking a "2nd Round Guy" in the middle of the first round is trouble!!

I don't think teams reach that much though. Every team has a few positions of need so if they can't get the guy they want they have to go for another position which is just not as big of a need.

I agree, but I think teams will make an occassional reach...*cough* Dol *cough* phins.

But wern't the Texans interested in taking him with the next pick anyway?

That one was basically a luxury pick that they couldn't really afford to take in thhe situation they were in, but who knows he could turn out to be great.

Whitner was hardly a huge reach though, most people had him going in the 12-20 range and in his first two seasons he has played well enough to justify the tag.

I agree, he looks a good player but I wasn't really referring to that player specifically just making a general statement.

Sorry, I think I quoted the wrong post, should have quoted the post that mentioned Whitner.

That's what I heard too...about the Texans...but who knows, it could've been all B/S. Ginn started to come on towards the end of last season. I'm really curious to see how he does this year. If things go right over time, I could see Ginn living up to that 7th Pick Tag...

Teddy is going to be a freaking stud mark my words. also I could see Dorsey falling because of him being injury plagued.

Only if they give him some help.

I would love if he fell to 21! I do realise there is about 0.03 chance of this happening though.

They need to get "Teddy" someone to throw him the ball too. But he should be much improved this year...he should have a better grasp on the offense.

yeah he'll have a better understanding of the offense this year, a completely new offense with a new staff lol

I hope Ginn can step up and make himself worthy of a 1st rd pick......I have never been so pissed at the Fins as I was when they made that pick. I seriously questioned my 27 years of loyalty last season, at least they can only go up from there.

Suprises this draft......hmmm....unless someone falls (Glen Dorsey) a la Aaron Rodgers or Brady Quinn I don't see much happeneing that would be a shock. Maybe Dallas gets Mcfadden somehow...which would shock me.:dontknow:

If the Cowboys do get Pacman, do they consider that fulfilling their need for CB and free up one of their first round picks?

You figure they would use on on a CB if they didn't get Pacman...so what's it hurt to combine the two picks to move up to try to attain McFadden if that's who they really want??
