The Eagles have fired Jim Washburn, the colorful defensive line coach who brought the wide-9 to Philadelphia. Washburn will be replaced by Tommy Brasher. Brasher coached the defensive line for the Eagles from 1999-2005. Brasher is likely just a stop gap until another coach comes in next year and hires his own defensive line coach. Andy Reid, who brought both Washburn and Howard Mudd in back in 2011, had this to say about the firing of Washburn. “Jim is a fine football coach and we appreciate the efforts he gave to this team over the past two years,†Reid said. “However, I determined that it was in the team’s best interest that we move in a different direction in terms of trying to maximize the production of that position group. We look forward to having Tommy Brasher back on board to work with the defensive line.†Source: The Star Ledger
This firing I can completely understand. When Babin goes from 18.5-5.5 sacks and Trent Cole has what, 2 sacks, something needed to happen. But at this point the team will be lucky to have 5 wins this season.
from what i have read, this guy had become a team cancer, especially after babin got released last week.
After reading quite a few articles about this and other stuff about the Eagles coaching staff and.......WOW! Had no idea this guy was as big a douchebag that he is and that that the retiring O-Line coach, Howard Mudd, isn't far behind. Why has Andy Reid allowed this to go on for so long?
Howard Mudd is like 102. You just let old people ramble on about the crap they ramble on about. It's a law.
That was really dumb in hindsight, firing the DC before the DL coach, but I can see his reasoning. You have a big name DL coach, someone who seems to know what he's doing, and OTOH you have a converted OL coach whose hiring was heavily criticized right after it was announced.
truth, plus i also won my 33 pool thanks to the eagles so this season isn't a total wash. seriously though, this guy was/is a complete asshat. they should've revoked the heckface's airline ticket and told him to get home on his own. heck him.
