The Eagles released former first round draft pick Danny Watkins, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. This according to a source close to the situation. The offensive lineman's days appeared numbered when head coach Chip Kelly gave Watkins a lukewarm endorsement following Thursday's preseason finale. Watkins will still earn $1.1 million in guaranteed money this season. Philadelphia also cut ties with veteran tight end Clay Harbor, wide receivers Greg Salas and Russell Shepard, offensive tackle Michael Bamiro, running back Matthew Tucker, linebackers Chris McCoy and Travis Long and safety David Sims. Re: Eagles Release OL Danny Watkins, TE Clay Harbor sucks harbor had to go but we got the new rookie to take his spot. Watkins just robbed us of money
Re: Eagles Release OL Danny Watkins, TE Clay Harbor IIRC, Watkins was one of those few draft picks that was almost unanimously panned and unfortunately for the Eagles, lived up to it. Still, with the Canadian background he'll probably slip into a starting 12 up north.
Curtis Marsh also cut, which means the Eagles top 3 picks from 2011 have all been released. Matthews was the 4th pick, but if this team had any kind of depth he wouldn't be here either. Great draft, Howie.
