Eagles, Rookie WR Jeremy Maclin Remain Far Apart

Maclin missed the second day of Eagles training camp as negotiations on his contract continued with no clear sign of a resolution. Jim Steiner, the St. Louis-based agent who represents Maclin, said Monday night that he believed "some progress" had been made in his talks with Eagles consultant Andrew Brandt, but a team source painted a different picture yesterday morning. "I guess if you go from ridiculous to slightly less ridiculous you can call that real progress," the source said.

Damn it, the nfl needs to have rookie contracts like the nba. How can you pay so much for a rookie when he hasent played any football yet.

When i was watching eagles live they were saying its not really his fault. All the agents are trying to these really big deals for there players because of the situation next year.

Even without maclin here im kind of more excited about lesean mccoy and ingram.From leseans interviews im liking him more and more every day he seems like he really has his head on straight. Its pretty awesome that he was a eagles fan before he even got drafted. They were talking about how he got donovan mcnabbs autograph at camp a few years agut of all the rookies hes the one i really hope breaks out because we really dont have a RB for the future and if it could be lesean that would be great. Ingram from what i saw at camp even without pads just looks like a great all around athlete. He used to play basketball so he has great leaping ability and makes really nice catches. They used him alot in the redzone at camp so hes probably gonna have alot of chances to help us there this year. With maclin we dont really NEED him to have a huge impact i like our group of receivers already. Curtis had a really good season before he got hurt and avant has been really good in the slot.Then theres guys like baskett and brown that made big plays for us. People really knock reggie but he might be the best 6th receiver in the league if he makes the team. Maclins agent is just hurting maclin really he needs time to develop.

 

maclin is really the only one thats going to contribute much this year

 

I really doubt that lesean is most likely gonna be the #2 back and gonna help westbrook out this year. I see him getting a good number of carries hope he has a good preseason. Ingram is to good of a athlete not to use the guy is awesome. We arent really deep at TE either celek is gonna have his first year that he actually starts so dont you think they would mix in ingram in there as well especially in the redzone? Maclin wont contribute to much because he has so many players ahead of him hes not gonna beat out curtis or desean and avant has been great in the slot so that leaves him as the 4th receiver. Cant really contribute as much when you are the 4th receiver compared to 2 guys that are gonna be #2 on the depth chart at there position.

 

maclin will get involved more, i guarantee it. jackson was thrown in there and asked to produce i expect that to happen with maclin. they are gonna want maclin, jackson and curtis on the field together. mccoy is gonna spell westbrook but wont get any significant time unless westbrook gets hurt. ingram is incredibly raw.....hes got a long way to go as a TE, i doubt he sees the field much this year. mccoy will get involved but between being a WR and a return man maclin will have the biggest impact, unless westbrook is out for a long time

 

We will see what happens but for right now im not that excited about maclin that much anymore. Replicating what jackson did would be a very hard task.

Thats a part of it because hes just missing time and hurting himself. Depending on how long this holdout is.

 

meh i dont blame him, its all the agent im sure he wants to be out there...blame him when it gets to double digit days

 

This whole blame the agent crap only goes so far.... the agent is an employee of the player asked to perform a task.... that task can be get me as many years and as much money as possible or it can be....get me a good fair deal that gets me in camp so I can get going.

 

Until more picks in front of him and behind him sign elsewhere, it's tough to make it happen.

 

i know it only goes so far but the agents talk them into this, maclin can pull the plug on this at any time and sign the deal but theres nothing wrong with giving his agent a little more time....once it gets to 10 days though thats when maclin is responsible and needs to start to think about making a move.

and theres alot of first rounders not signed....that doesnt help either

 

That's when Eagles fans should start to panic about a holdout. Until then...it's the norm...

 

I don't think PANIC is really warranted if he moves to Nepal to become a buddhist monk. I do however want him in camp yesterday

 

its not all its cracked up to be, we got ziggy in camp and it sucks

considering only 1 player between 6-28 is signed its hard to get a figure thats "fair"....sanchez got a huge deal at 5 and andre smith is gonna rod alot of teams over because hes gonna want somewhere between gholston (6 last year) and sanchez

 

...and the QB's contracts don't really count in that equation either...they're a "different animal..."

The money Sanchez got may matter a little bit for Smith because they were drafted close together. It doesn't matter for Maclin.
