DeSean Jackson is obviously unhappy with his current deal and some wonder whether his dip in production has anything to do with his contract situation according to Tim McManus of Phillysportsdaily.com. Jackson was asked Thursday how he deals with the weekly scrutiny. “Whether I have the ball in my hands or not, I feel like I already established myself in this league as one of the great receivers,†said Jackson. “I just gotta go out there and keep doing what I can do. Stay healthy is the biggest thing. As long as I can stay healthy, regardless of where I’m playing, I think I’ll be alright. Just stay healthy and go out there and do my thing.†Jackson, in the final year of his rookie deal that is slated to pay him $600,000, took out an insurance policy prior to the start of the season as a means to protect himself. But obviously, without the big pay day as of yet, the goal is to make it through the season unscathed. “That’s the No. 1 priority is to stay healthy,†said Jackson. “I wouldn’t be able to play the game if I wasn’t healthy. In my book, that’s the No. 1 priority. Winning is next in that category. As long as I’m healthy and we’re winning, regardless of my numbers, I think I’ll be very happy.†Source: The Redzone
With this being the final year of his contract I don't think he would intentionally tank a season. He has to prove to other teams that he's a consistent threat if he wants the big bucks. He does have to make sure he's healthy because a serious injury will drop his value significantly.
Well his first priority sure as heck isn't to give 100% on every play. That's for damn sure. Seems like he actually gives more effort on blocking for run plays than he does pass plays. I realize his value in the system, but I'd rather have a guy with size that can give me 5-8 catches a game for first downs than give me 1 or 2 catches and play decoy all game.
Uhm...what? He has a history of concussion issues and is playing for peanuts. While I think that these guys get paid way too much anyway I realize that Jackson is a top 10 WR in the NFL and is truly a game changer. Just him standing back to field punts changes the entire dynamic of the punting team. The dude isn't going to get destroyed by Vick's floaters this season so he is out of the league or gets a tiny butt contract. And you have to admit, Vick's throws have been a bit on the awful side this year. Last year he was awesome at leading Jackson and having him catch on the stride. So far this year Jackson has had to stop or slow down to make catches. Look at whats happened to Maclin. He's had to slow down, stop or come back to balls and almost has had his head taken off a few times. There is NO WAY the I don't give Jackson a huge pay day AS SOON AS I CAN if I'm the Eagles. The reason that Maclin is looking so great is because they're overloading on Jackson. Take him out of the equation and put in Avant or Steve Smith and what happens? NOTHING! Luckily Shady is RIPPING apart the field this year and Maclin has stepped up. I'd love to have a big target out there as well(that should be Brent Celek's job BTW) but I have a man crush on that fast illiterate!
I know his big question is health... But what kind of contract do you guys think he will get? 3 year 5 year? Do you think it will be anything like Fitz's contract?
You have no idea what happens if we put Steve Smith or Jason Avant in there. So you're saying you're cool with him playing like a scared snitch so long as he doesn't get hurt and risk his precious contract at the end of this year? Like I've been saying all along, maybe the FO is seeing what kind of player they have before they drop ridiculous coin. One who consistently fails to give top effort unless he is utilized early in games, or one who goes to battle and gives 100% even if he is risking a fat contract for the better of the team.
i like desean but honestly i do think hes a bit overrated hes no fitzgerald or calvin johnson and shouldent be paid as such. I honestly wouldent be to devistated if he goes to another team. The guy i think should get paid and deserves a big pay day would be shady.
There was a knock on him coming out of Cal. When he wasn't involved in the offense, he acted disinterested, and took plays off.
God forbid that he cares about his health and money ( even though that doesn't excuse him for playing like a "snitch"). He should put the fans and the organization first right? :/ That man needs to worry about his money. As consumers and fans we think that players should give a heck about us and the team, why? We're not going to give him a job if he has a career ending injury or pay his ridiculously high mortgage or car note and NFL teams are far from loyal and very seldom do the right thing. To AZ I don't think he deserves Fitz type money bit he deserves mote then what he has.
I see this one a little differently today. DeSean Jackson is already a multi-millionaire because I and many other fans spend ridiculous coin supporting our team. So do I think he should give a heck about us fans and the team? You're damn right I do.
First, lmafo at him being a top 10 receiver. Second, Jackson needs a deal filled with incentives, otherwise I see him playing half butt.
