Despite the unequivocal statement from Vikings coach Brad Childress that no deadline has been applied to retired quarterback Brett Favre regarding his decision as to whether he should unretire for the second straight year, ESPN stands by its report that a deadline was established. In the course of reporting the news of the deadline, we also noted the possibility that Favre could still join the Vikings once the deadline had passed, ESPN spokesman Bill Hofheimer told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Clearly, thats important context. We stand by our reporting. So, basically, ESPN is saying that Childress is lying.

I don't think they're claiming he's lying necessarily, just that there was a portion of the report to cover their ass, however minor that phrase may be.

Werder probably had a source that told him there was a deadline. The source was wrong...deal with it. Unless Werder wants to name this "source" we can only take the word of Brad Childress who is in the Vikings organization and wow...just happens to be the head coach...

I'd like to know where ESPN gets their information.

How can you stand by something proven as being incorrect. Very obstinate of ESPN.
