Ex-Giant Burress pleads guilty in weapons case - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Facing the prospect of spending at least 3 1/2 years behind bars, one-time Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress(notes) on Thursday accepted a plea bargain with a two-year prison sentence for accidentally shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub. The former New York Giants wide receiver pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a lesser charge than he had faced. He will be sentenced Sept. 22, and lawyer Benjamin Brafman said he expects Burress to begin serving his sentence immediately after.

I wonder if it would have been less time had he taken the plea earlier?

So let me get this straight...

Burres shot HIMSELF in the leg, and got two years.

Donte' Stallworth drove drunk, maybe even high, killed another person...and got 23 days?

    Justice...you're doing it wrong.

  8. Crowned

    Crowned Doesn't give a shit.

This is a ridiculous sentence considering Stallworth just KILLED another human and served 26 days.

Stalworth paid off the family before he went to trial. Plax should have sued himself and settled and maybe he could have gotten a better deal.

Why can't these judges make players play the game for a dollar a season or levy some huge multi-million dollar fine? Locking this guy up costs all of us money!

LOL at another comparison to Stallworth. Do you people seriously think that driving a little buzzed is better then carrying an unlicensed firearm into a crowded dance club and firing it? If nobody jaywalked into Stallworths fender and Plaxico's bulled went through somebody elses leg (or head) you'd feel differently about the choices both individuals made.

Harsh or not, he knowingly broke the law and put innocent lives at risk. Good grief.....the gun didn't have a safety on it! He's just fortunate he didn't blow his own nuts off. Idiot.

State of New York doesn't mess around...On top of that, DA made it public. That they we going to make example out him. No football for 2 years. Now, that is very harsh.. At least he wised up and took the deal. 2 years is allot better than 3 1/2. Hoped he saved some money..

I don't know if anyone else has heard this, but Norm Hitzges on The Ticket said this morning that Roger Goodell has stated that once Burress gets out of jail, there will be not be a further suspension by the NFL.
