    FOXBORO — In the aftermath of last April’s draft, the Patriots’ group of rookies were void of the star power that consumed their previous three classes. There were no assumed starters in the mix, just a collection of solid players who had a chance to carve out a niche in the right opportunity.

    Now, on the eve of the regular-season finale, it’s obvious Bill Belichick leaned on his rookies to the highest degree. In fact, nine started at least one game this season, more than any team in the NFL, and the 53 combined starts is second only to the Jets (61).
