Former Buffalo Bills head coach and present New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, wanted to draft Drew Brees in the 2001 draft. Williams wanted to trade up in the second round to grab Brees but the Bills found no takers to move up from the 46th pick and Brees went to the Chargers at No. 32. The Bills ended up taking defensive end Aaron Schoebel. When the Chargers took Brees, Williams told Sports Illustrated's Peter King: "I almost pulled a hamstring in the draft room, jumping up and down because I was so mad." First... who gives a heck. Second... if you couldn't find anyone to trade up with then you weren't offering enough you cheap bastard.
Firsty, who could have guessed Brees would have been this good, especially after a couple of rocky years at the start of his time with the Chargers. Secondly, Aaron Schobel was far from shabby regardless. Gregg is probably just wanting to give himself some credit.
