Joe Avezzano, a former Cowboys assistant coach, died Thursday of cardiac failure in Italy, Avezzano was 68. Avezzano, the head coach of the Milano Seamen of the Italian Football League, was reported to have been running on a treadmill at the time of his death. A popular figure in the Cowboys organization, Avezzano supervised the special teams units from 1990-2002, working under head coaches Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer and Dave Campo. He became the head coach of the Dallas Desperados, an Arena Football League outfit that operated under the umbrella of the Cowboys. He later resigned after two seasons and took a job in Oakland, when former Cowboys coach Bill Parcells informed Avezzano that he would not be included among his staff.

My deepest condolences!! He was a great football mind. Another good one that never had a chance at a head coach position in the NFL. Rest in Peace Joe, you gave plenty of opponents fits with your intensity, passion, knowledge and love of the game.
