Former Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith has been released to house arrest shortly after being sent to a Mississippi prison on a six-year weapons and drug sentence, Dana Treen of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Smith, 44, will have to wear an ankle bracelet but can go to work, school and church, said spokeswoman Tara Booth of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Otherwise, he will have to remain at home, she said. Smith was released from prison June 18, she said, his type of crime made him eligible for what the state classifies as an intensive supervision program.

Booth said Smith will also be eligible for parole in June 2014.
If he is paroled, a parole board will set the terms of the release.

I was shocked when I found out he got into this level of trouble. Just thought he was a darn good WR

A friend of mine on JAX told me that he was known as a coke head around town. Real shame

He's a "poser." Freaking Aaron Hernandez wannabe.

Seriously though, I had no idea he was this troubled either. Thought he'd be a good player along with Fred Taylor, Tony Boselli and Mark Brunnell for new ownership to bring in to help with the transition...guess not...lol.

Thought he was a stand up person, guess not. Glad the Cowboys let him go back in the day. I can hear it now if we hadn't.
