ESPN analyst and Patriots WR Randy Moss' former teammate Cris Carter didn't hold back today when asked about Moss's lack of production in Sunday's win over the Panthers. "For me, as someone who teaches wide receivers how to be wide receivers and how to run routes and what type of effort and stuff it would take, it was pathetic, and I was shocked," Carter said today on ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike in the Morning. "Because I know it's in him, but I thought he had matured to the point where I wasn't going to see it anymore." Carter said he could tell while watching Sunday's game that Moss didn't feel motivated, and Carter noted that Moss was one of four New England Patriots players who were sent home from practice last week after showing up late. The main deflection of the criticism for Randy Moss has been that his critics were unqualified to criticize him - I think Carter has the credentials to call out Moss, and I agree with him.
You have to agree, Moss is notorious for behavior like this. I can understand it may happening 1-2 times in someones career, but come on man.
I didn't see the game live, but I figured people were exaggerating when they say he quit on the day. Lo and behold, I see highlights, and wow, thought he had grown passed this. Cris Carter is not pleased.
I've been very happy with Randy's performance up to this year. However, he just isn't with the program anymore. He dropped 2 passes he should have caught, and fumbled the only pass he did catch. Then on a down and out by the sidelines, he didn't make the cut with authority, allowing the defender to get in position for the pick. Never should have been a pick. Brady put it where Moss SHOULD have been. He is suppose to be a leader on this team, not a distraction. He's not even being doubled up anymore, and it's making it harder for Brady to find targets down field.
i'm not taken up for him.. but before this point, brady has miss thrown a lot of passes moss' way. Still no reason to stop trying, especially when your team has the talent to win it all.
After last year with Cassel missing just about every deep pass that he threw at Moss, Randy should be happy he has Tom back. Right now Randy is seldom open to warrant a pass in his direction. It's to the point defenders are basically shutting him down with one on one coverage, and bragging about it. Looks like Moss might be done, and he sure doesn't warrant a 10mil contract for next year.
