Asked Monday if Matt Schaub’s recent struggles have put the veteran on a short leash, coach Gary Kubiak said Schaub is the Texans’ short- and long-term quarterback. “How short of a leash is he on? He’s our quarterback,†Kubiak said during a media interview at Reliant Stadium. “We’ve all got to do things a little better.†The coach acknowledged he feels bad for Schaub, who’s thrown a pick-six in three consecutive games and fallen out of favor with many fans. “You want to let players know you’re human and you know what they’re feeling. You know what they’ve just been through,†Kubiak said. “I basically expressed to him what I told y’all after the game. I felt really bad from my own standpoint; the position I put him in. I’ve been coaching quarterbacks for a long time. … Understand what a guy’s feeling, what he’s fixing to go home to and what that evening’s going to be like. … You just want them to know that you’re there for them, more than anything.†“I believe in him. He’s a strong kid,†Kubiak said. “He’s been doing this a long time. He’s played good games and been told he’s very, very good. He’s probably been told it wasn’t so good. It’s a tough week we’ve got to work through and be ready to go again.†Source: NFL.com SteveRobWhatever's Take: Schaub's tough stretch has to be one hard pill to swallow for a team that thought they were primed to run through the AFC. Schaub isn't the only one to blame though. The defense gave up a 98-yard drive, Ben Tate's fumble was bad and the coaches seemed to crap the bed with a 17-point lead. They might be burning Schaub jerseys in Houston, but there are others that belong in the fire as well.
Not all Schaubs fault. Johnson is injured, Foster isn't Foster. Team isn't any where near where they were a year or even two ago...
No kidding. what about a head coach that won't allow a veteran like Schaub to audible at the scrimmage?
