Texans rookie running back Ben Tate missed his fifth day of OTAs yesterday because of an injured hamstring according to Alan Burge of the Houston Examiner. There are 14 days of OTAs prior to the Texans' mandatory three day minicamp on June 14-16. Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is concerned about Tate's absence but he understands that rushing him back could make a bad thing even worse. "The young back (Tate) is way behind everybody right now, but we've got to be smart and get him well before he competes," Kubiak said after practice yesterday. When asked about Tate's possible return, or more accurately his debut, Kubiak said "I think he's still a ways away. Does that mean next week? I hope so."
