The backup quarterback on the Giants virtually never plays but the Giants decided to make a change anyway. They have signed David Carr, who served as their backup quarterback in 2008 and 2009, and Carr for the time being will compete with Sage Rosenfels for the right to serve as No. 2 on the depth chart behind Eli Manning. Rosenfels is set to make $3 million this season, considerably more than whatever Carr is getting paid, meaning this would be a salary cap savings of about $2 million if the Giants decide to jettison Rosenfels. As of now, no move will be made. The two could stage a training camp and preseason battle to determine who sticks on the roster.

It tells you how confident the Giants are in Eli's durability. If they're willing to have David Carr as their #2. David Carr has no business being even a #3 QB in any system.
