New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell isn't worried about Chip Kelly and the idea he will be running his college offense, the read-option, with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to NJ.com.

Fewell has been studying plenty of Oregon Ducks film to prepare for Michael Vick and the funky offense, but says he and his defense will shut it down when faced with it this season:

"I look at that offense kind of like the wildcat. The wildcat took us by storm and then until you can see it, understand it; then you can defend it.

I think we’re seeing it. I think we’re trying to understand it. In the fall, we’ll be able to defend it."

Of course, this won't be the first time a team is running the option in the NFL. The wildcat took the NFL by storm a few years ago when the Miami Dolphins stunned the world with it, and it led many to believe the formation would revolutionize the game. While still a part of some attacks, the wildcat is merely a change-of-pace.

He better hope they can stop it. He's got 4 games against 2 teams that utilize it pretty well

I think its a lazy comparison to the wildcat, because the read-option is QB driven instead of your best athlete on offense driving it. And the QBs that are best at it can sling the ball like your a good pocket passer as well. To that though, I'm sure defenses will adjust. Probably going to see D Ends blowing the QB up whether he's got the ball or not

Well, no doubt from a strategy standpoint, the league is always in a constant state of adjustments to what other teams are doing.

It usually comes down to how well the players execute on the field.

We have zero idea how well the Eagles utilize it yet, I assume that's who you're referring to.

Also, the wildcat took everyone "by storm" for like a month. This is not the same.

I think the read option will be short-lived simply because QBs aren't going to be durable to run it year after year. If your star QB takes a shot and gets knocked out of the game, then what?
The RO puts the QB at a much greater risk of injury.
