New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has been fined $20,000 by the National Football League for being a no-show for today's media availability session, Albert Breer of the NFL Network reports. Umenyiora was the only player or coach that was obligated to appear to be absent from the session, but did make it to a team meeting following the media event. Umenyiora's contract has been an issue this season for the veteran defensive end, but Breer adds that the absence is not believed to be contract-related. The $20,000 is a relatively small fine for Umenyiora, who earned $3.875 million in base salary and roster bonuses in 2011 and has made another $84,000 in playoff earnings heading into Super Bowl XLVI. Depending on the result of Sunday's game, Umenyiora will make either $44,000 or $88,000 on Sunday. Source: Mac's Football Blog
Why the heck fine him 20 grand for not showing up, unless it's written in his contract that he has to be there, he doesn't have to be there.
