Giants defensive tackle Linval Joseph was fined $15,000 today by the league for his low hit on Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo late in the third quarter of last Sunday night’s 36-31 loss in Dallas.

On a second-and-5 from the Cowboys’ 25-yard line, Joseph rushed Romo and was stumbling as he got by Dallas guard Mackenzy Bernadeau. Joseph eventually ended up hitting the knees of Romo as he released the ball.

He was called for a 15-yard roughing-the-passer penalty on the play.

“I’m going to appeal it,†Joseph said today. “We’ll see what happen. I feel like I got pushed. I hit the ground before I hit (Romo). We’ll see which way it goes and go from there.â€

Joseph said this is the highest fine he has ever incurred, “especially for not actually doing it.â€
